The Story that We Tell

Every time we come across a new person, whether in streets, schools, colleges, work, parties or anywhere else, we recount our history.  Who we are, how our life is going, where we live, what we like to do, what we believe in…things that makes us who we are. As we get older, our story becomes stronger and longer.  Our thoughts are more developed and we have more experiences. Our stories stay with us till the very end and for some even more.

So, here I made a lyrics drawing of the song, Story of My Life by One Direction.  The lyrics are extracted from the first stanza of the song.  It is a slow beautiful song which sums up the story of each member of the British boy band.  The setting is in a dark room where all of them are developing hundreds of photographs from their past.  Some of the pictures come alive and they relive their small moments. I thought this was really wonderful as it showed that although they were big stars, their beginnings were quite humble and ordinary.

All our stories have similar beginnings and you may even feel as if your story is completely common, but there is always something that makes it unique.  There is always something that makes our story stand apart from others, no matter how small that something is.  It is something that makes us who we are and makes other people want to be with us.  It makes us play a small role in this big world.  What is that something? Only you can figure it out.

It may take time but you will eventually know, after all, it’s your story.  So go out and meet new people, go to different places and do something exciting. Fill your each day with something new and good.  Make your story longer and worth telling. Capture each moment of joy and happiness but in the meantime, learn from mistakes and failures.  Listen to others’ stories as well,  they may surprise you with new things.  But most importantly, enjoy each and every moment. Your story is only as good as you believe it to be…
